"Dear Mother,
Just a note on Mother's Day to let you know I'm thinking about you. It is impossible to write or even send anything from where I am or I would send you a little gift.
Yesterday afternoon the Captain and I went hiking up in the mountains to a big waterfall. It surely was pretty and I needed the exercise. I found some real pretty rocks for Sara Lee and I'll bet she never saw any like them before. Jim Hollinshead [sic] the boy I went to Washington with and I were going this afternoon but it's raining.
We stay anchored right much of the time and the weather isn't too bad so I guess I could be in a lot worst places.
How is Jane and Saint? Do they like the apartment they have?
I'll write again soon. I don't have the slightest idea when mail leaves here and all my letters for the past several weeks may come in at once. We still haven't had any mail at all yet but maybe we'll get some soon. Love, Pete.
P.S. Where was Braxton Horsley sent? I surely did like him and hope I run into him somewhere again in my travels. Pete"
