"Dear Ma, Just a word to let you know I'm O.K. I'm still mighty busy but things look better. The weather is nice where I am and I am fat and happy. I'd like to go to Horse Pt. with you and eat some oysters & collard greens, though. We have an officers steward aboard whom some other officer told that I liked chitterlings. Well, today he came up to me and wanted to know when I wanted them and how I wanted them cooked. I told him I wasn't from North Carolina - . Write me soon and give my love to the balance of the family. Love & kisses, Pete"
