"Dear Ma,
I haven't heard from you in a long time - why don't you write? This is the first chance I have had to mail a letter in a long time.
I had a letter from Jane & one from Amy sometime ago. How is Sam Lee and Franklin coming a long.
The ship is O.K. but she rolls like a bowl. I have never been the least bit sea sick but I think everyone else here has everytime it gets rough some days there is one other officer and myself at the dining table - it is very funny in a way but they sure feel bad. This other officer who doesn't get sick is from N.C. so I guess they can take anything can't they.
Right now she is rolling hence the scrawl. We'll be in port soon I think though. Write soon and all my love - Pete"
