"Dearest Folks All week and no letter from you. I got one from Helen and also a picture from Helen which I have billed as my "Pin Up" girl of the week. I have quite a collection in my locker now. One of Charles, one of Helen, one of Dottie, one of Chrystella, and one of Purser, a sailor friend of mine. Wish I had one of you two too. What about it? If we ever get together again, I want to have a picture taken of the entire family. Why I never thought of that when I was home Xmas I don't know. Crazy me. Seems like someone else would have thought of it too. I don't believe that we have one of the whole family and we should have. I was going to Richmond today and have my picture taken but something came up that made it impossible for me to go. I will just have to wait until next pay day. We had a wonderful USO show Wednesday night. It was so good that I stayed and saw it twice. I think I wrote Helen all about it. In case I didn't, I will tell you about it. The master of the ceremonies was Jewish, as usual, but he got off some good cracks about the Jews. He told one about 12 Jewish boys who volunteered for the Air Corps. The night before they had heard Bing Crosby sing, "There's a Gold Mine in the Sky". Things like that keep the show going. They had a very good magician who was wonderful. Then there was a girl who sang and played the accordion. The feature was the girl who Ripley had billed as the most limber girl in the world. I had never saw a person get themselves in such gosh-awful positions. She actually sat on her own head. I just know that she didn't have a bone in her body. It was an hour and a half well spent. We have had some good shows lately. Bette Daivs is playing tomorrow night in "Now Voyager". Hope to see that one. Last night we saw "I Married A Witch". Such good shows help morale after seeing some of the Navy issue of pictures that were years and years old. Yesterday at noon a Navy picture (one taken by Navy photographers) in technicolor about the Battle of Midway was shown. Actual battle scenes are always thrilling, but grusome. After seeing our own planes being shot down and exploding in mid-air and exploding when hitting the ground, I still want to be an aviator. I have my doubts because my request has been in since November 5 and although it has been approved by the Navy Department and although I have been put on ComFive's waiting list, I hardly think they will call me. Still hoping noless. This typing stinks but I am not on the beam today. Just got through graduating a class of 100 officers and I must say that I am glad to get rid of them. This class was a pain in the bizokus. I am sending a copy of a memorandum gotten out by Harding to the fellows in the office. You can see for yourselves what [sic] position I hold in the office. I'm proud of me and the confidence and trust he has put in me. Paragraphs 4,5,6, and 7 were put in by me. The rest was composed by Harding. The 3rd paragraph was put in for my benefit. I think no more about an officer than I do an enlisted man, not as much in fact, so I treat them all alike. I am firm with them because if I am not, they will walk over me like no bodies' business. I must have been insulting at one time or another or some officer has said something to Harding about the curt terms I have useed [sic] to him. Oh, well, I will have to start being nice to the dear, dear boys. Well, this is enough of this chatter for the time being. Write to me when you can find the time. Your loving son Charles Jr.
