Context

The concept for the original Vail Museum came about in 1976. The idea for collecting items from Vail Mansion came from Darrell Casteel, Instructor in Anthropology at Lyndon State College. Assistance in procuring and organizing the collection was provided by student Tom Way and his wife. The original location of Vail Museum was on the 3rd floor tower area of the T.N. Vail Center, in the hallway opposite The President’s Hallway. In 2012, Vail Museum was moved to the 3rd Floor of the T.N. Vail Center, in the Admissions Office Hallway, near the Alumni and Development Office. The original Vail Museum space was converted to a hospital suite to accommodate a new Nursing Program at VTSU in 2023. Between 2012 and 2023, the old museum space had been used for various purposes, including a computer lab.
