Description

Butter mold, also called a butter press, wooden, with an imprint for the letter "V", for Vail located in the glass display case

Context

A butter press was used to create shaped blocks of butter. In many instances, these presses would imprint a design, an image or a letter to signify the origin of the imprint. In this case, the block of butter would be embossed with a raised letter V, for Vail.
