Name/Title

Apron, Craft, ca. late 18th–early 19th century

Entry/Object ID

2024.7.1

Description

Painted leather Masonic apron, ca. late 18th–early 19th century, possibly British or North American

Use

For use in lodge meetings and ceremonies. Note its length, which is longer than modern aprons. Typically, the longer aprons not only mimicked those worn by operative aprons but also matched with the long frock coats worn by men during the era.

Context

Judging from the symbolism, this ceremonial apron also displays Royal Arch symbolism.
