Context

A theologian, Starck argued that an Illuminati-led conspiracy precipitated the French Revolution. He promoted a clerical brand of Templarism and co-founded a lodge belonging to the Rite of Strict Observance. For a time, he lived next door to the philosopher Immanuel Kant.

Starck's name is alternatively spelled as 'Stark", and the first initial is incorrectly given as "D." The case is decorated with embossed Masonic decoratives, although the book isn't necessarily Masonic. It was likely re-bound at the direction of Charles Gillett.
