Oakland Scottish RiteContext
For decades the Oakland Scottish Rite Bodies traveled north to Eureka, California to confer the degrees of the A & ASR upon eligible candidates. I am presently uncertain when these pilgrimages began, but there are photographs from the early 1920s and I strongly suspect that they may have occurred earlier. We do know that they continued during the majority of the 20th century, well into the 1970s.
Shown here is a 1923 photograph of Oakland brethren posing in a lush Humboldt County redwood forest, dressed for the 21st Degree: "Noachite, or Prussian Knight."Collection
