Cream Pitcher

Name/Title

Cream Pitcher

Entry/Object ID

1960.1.40

Description

Brown-glazed ceramic cream pitcher in the shape of a cow. There is a hole in the center of the cows back, and the figure is hollow to the open mouth. It has two ears, two small horns, and raised bumps representing eyes. The tail is curved forward over the back to act as a handle.

Context

Though the United States Pottery Company in Bennington, Vermont, made cow-shaped cream pitchers, this one lacks many of the identifying hallmarks, including crescent-shaped nostrils and well-defined eyes.
