Linen sampler made by Elvira S. Tilden of Norwich, Vt., dated March 28, 1839. She was 12. Sampler includes 1 script alphabet in capital letters and two block letter alphabets, one upper case and one lower case, numbers 1-10, name of artist, date, and age. Lower third of sampler is landscape with house, sun and plants, surrounded by cross-stitched border in green, tan, red, brown and pink. She died Oct. 2, 1845. Quite coarse so likely home spun and woven. House stitches include: long arm cross and herringbone and regular cross. Colors are black, light rust, red, white, green, gold and blue.Acquisition
