Description

Female figure made of papier-mâché over a wire frame wearing a pink silk gown with a green linen hood and white silk wimple. The gown is trimmed with ribbon printed with triangles inside circles. It has wide sleeves that open to show tight yellow sleeves. The yellow is also visible beneath the hem of the gown. A black cloth shoe with a pointed toe sticks out from the bottom of the hem. She is holding a distaff and spindle connected by spun linen. The figure is attached to a round wooden base. The figure is accompanied by a plywood box consisting of a base and cover. There is a paper label that reads, "1066 ANGLO-SAXON WOMAN SPINNING / OVERTUNIC, UNDERTUNIC, MANTLE, ALL VERY COLORFUL. EMBROIDERED BORDERS ON CLOTHING. HAIR COVERED BY VEIL."
