Description

Two heavily carved gangway boards. The boards are carved with an eagle holding a banner reading "E PLURIBUS UNUM" in its beak and arrows and an olive branch in its talon. Beneath the eagle is a banner that reads, "OREGON", and a fouled anchor. The sides of each board are clad in brass. The backs of the doors are incised with the words, "OR. STAR. F."

Context

From the battleship Oregon during the Spanish-American War. The ship was captained by Charles Edgar Clark of Bradford, Vermont.
