Description

Straight-bladed sword with black leather scabbard. The sword's handle is made of ivory and incised with decorative vertical lines. The pommel is in the shape of an eagle's head. The remains of a red silk tassel are attached to a loop in the rain guard. The locket, chape, and hooks on the scabbard are all brass.

Used by Edward F. Gould who enlisted to fight in the Civil War in Montpelier, Vermont in 1861.
