Description

Large commemorative medal molded on the front with a right-facing bust of Thomas Macdonough and a naval battle on the reverse. Macdonough is shown wearing a high-collared military coat with large epaulets. The inscription, "THO. MACDONOUGH. STAGNO CHAMPLAIN CLAS. REG. BRIT. SERAVIT" rings the edge. The reverse has a battle scene with several masted ships and small rowboats. A tow is at the right. The inscription, "UNO LATERE PERCUSSO. ALTERUM / IMPAVIDE VERTIT" rings the edge. the inscription "INTER CLASS. AMERI. ET BRIT DIE XI SEPT. MDCCCXIIII" is beneath the image.
