Description

Ornate sword with leather scabbard. The handle of the sword is leather wrapped in gold-toned twisted wire. The pommel is molded into a floral pattern and set with a dark stone. The blade is lightly engraved with an all-over floral pattern and the inscription, "Capt LW Page from the Howard Guard". The blade has two makers marks: the first is stamped close to the rain guard and says, "COLLINS & CO., HARTFORD CONN. 1862"; the second is incorporated into the engraving and says "MILLER & co. NEW YORK".

Context

Owned by Captain Lemuel W. Page of Company C, 12th Vermont Regiment, also known as the Howard Guards of Burlington, during the Civil War.
