Description

Saber and leather scabbard. The sword has a shagreen handle wrapped with gold-toned twisted wire. The guard is plain, but the blade is engraved with a floral vine and flags. The scabbard bears the engraved inscription, ""Lieut. P.C.J. Cheney, 1st Vt. Cav. Presented by friends of Washington, Vt. Oct. 3rd, 1863".

Owned by Lieutenant Perley C. J. Cheney of the 1st Vermont Cavalry during the Civil War.
