Saber with decorative engrave scabbard. The handle of the sword is made of ivory carved into a repeating diamond pattern. The pommel is in the shape of a horse's head with the knuckle guard coming out of its mouth. A gold ribbon is tied to the knuckle guard. The rain guard has a small applied shield at the center. The blade is blue metal with the engraved decorations inset with gold.Context
Said to have been owned by Johann von Robais, Baron de Kalb, during the Revolutionary War. Presented to Major Asahel Clarke at the Battle of Plattsburgh by George Clinton, Governor of New York.Acquisition
