Vermonters celebrated the state's bicentennial in 1991 in a variety of ways. Thomas Hurd of Montpelier decided to carve this carousel horse, which he called the"one and only Vermont Bicentennial Morgan Horse." He modeled it after a 1917 design commonly found at county fairs.
This horse if made from 30 layers of Vermont basswood laminated together, and took more than 200 hours to complete. The 13 jewels aruond the horse's neck represent the 13 states in 1791 and the large jewel on the horse's chest represents Vermont as the 14th state.Label
