Description

Silver pocket watch attached to green silk ribbon. The watch case is silver with a clear glass lens over a white face with black Arabic numerals. There is a smaller face at the bottom center for counting seconds. The watch attaches to a short chain at a central top post. The chain attached to a metal wire with an attached ribbon and medallion. The medallion is silver and engraved with a bust portrait of George Washington inside a floral border. The hands are copper, and the works are brass. Inside the back case, the works bear the mark "J. [or T.] Spencer, London / 223" as well as a lion rampant, a shield, and the initials "LC" and "G". There are three paper jeweler's labels inside the case. They read, "S. Abbott Coland and watch maker Montpelier" (ca. 1830); "Charles W. Scott Watchmaker & Jeweler Johnston Vermont" (1858-1860); and "Huntington and Ames Dealers in Clock Watches and Jewelry Gold & Silver ware & Fancy Goods St. Albans, VT" (1842-44).
