Description

Blue grosgrain ribbon attached to a bronze medal. The medal consists of two parts: a top bar and a medallion. The bar is molded to the shape of a spread eagle standing on a shield. Beneath it are the words, "ASSISTANT SERGEANT AT ARMS" within a rectangle. Hanging from the bar by a chain is a round medallion over a fasces. At the center of the medallion is the cupola of the capital building in Cleveland, Ohio, and the the inscription, "REPUBLICAN NATIONAL CONVETION / CLEVELAND, OHIO, 1924".

Context

Worn by the Assistant Sergeant at Arms at the 1924 Republican National Convention, during which Calvin Coolidge won the party's nomination for President. Coolidge had become president the year before at the death of President Warren G. Harding.
