Description

Membership ribbon consisting of a blue grosgrain ribbon with white edges and a gold medallion in the shape of a spread eagle. The medallion is in the shape of an eagle perched on a laurel wreath with an emblem on its body. The leaves of the laurel wreath are enameled green, and the eagle's head and central emblem are enameled white. Both sides of the medallion are molded and enameled.

Context

Owned by Horace Bucklin Sawyer of Burlington, Vermont, to show his membership in the Society of the Cincinnati. The Society was formed by French and American officers who fought in the American Revolutionary War and is open to their descendants.
