Commemorative medal showing a full-body depiction of a man (Lafayette) standing beside a pedestal holding busts of George Washington and Benjamin Franklin. The inscription, "MDCCLVII LAFAYETTE MDCCXXXIV." rings the edge, and the inscription, "AMERICA'S ADOPTED SON" is on the pedestal. The back shows a sword entwined with a garland of laurel leaves and oak leaves with a palm leaf behind. The inscription, "THE AMERICAN FRIENDS OF LAFAYETTE / MAY XX MCMXXXIV CENTENARY OF HIS DEATH", rings the edge.Context
