Description

Small gold pin attaching to faded red, white, and blue ribbon with a rectangular gold medallion hanging down. The medallion features a multi-layered art-deco style border framing a relief image of a ski jumper in the center. Two gold-colored jump rings secure the medallion to the ribbon, and there is a gold safety pin backing at the top of the ribbon to secure to clothing. Given to Herbert Holbrook Austine School alumnus class of 1947 who was a class A award winning ski jumper.

Context

Presented to Herbert P. Holbrook for a competition ski jump win. Graduate of Austine School for the Deaf Class of 1947, Holbrook was a Class A ski jumper and Olympic cross-country skier. He was also admitted to the AAAD (American Athletic Association for the Deaf) in 1964, the same year where he was highlighted in the New York Times News twice. He competed in Berchtesgaden (West Germany) in the 60's and in the Meribel Olympics in France in 1979.
