Description

Private bank note for 25 cents issued by the Bank of Montpelier. The ground is printed in horizontal red stripes, giving it an overall red or pink appearance. The words "Twenty-Five Cents." are written up the left side. The face has the inscription, "25 Ban of Montpelier. 25 / No. 84 Montpelier, Dec. 1, 1862. PAY THE BEARER 25 Twenty-Five Cents 25 IN CURRENT BILLS, When presented with our Checks in sums of even Dollars. To the cashier." It is signed E. P. Walton. The reverse is printed with an illustration of a flying eagle holding a United States flag, and the inscription, "E. P. WALTON, Boo and Job Printer, State Street, . . . . . Montpelier, Vt. / Checks of all kinds Printed to order." It is signed along the right edge, "Winslow W Avery."
