Description

Bonnet covered with olive green silk velvet. The brim is decorated with pleats of self fabric lined in corded silk taffeta. It is embellished with ostrich feathers and black lace. The interior of the brim is decorated with pleated cream-colored silk. There are two wide velvet bands that hang from the center back, and two silk ribbons that tie under the wearer's chin.

Context

Worn by Julia Harvey of Montpelier, Vermont, at her marriage to Joseph Poland in Paterson, New Jersey. Joseph Poland was editor of the Vermont Watchman and State Journal.
