Entry/Object ID

1941.9

Description

Thin-walled blue plastic capsule. The capsule is pill shaped: a small tube with rounded end. The cap slips over the body and covers about 1/4 of the length.

Context

A draft number was placed inside the capsule, which was then used for drawing the First National Lottery to determine the order in which Vermont men would be selected for service during World War II under the Selective Service Act of 1940. The vessel from which it was drawn was called the "Gold Fish Bowl".
