Description

Commemorative medal consisting of a bar, ribbon, and medallion. The bar is gold and shaped like a rectangle. The ribbon is striped red, white, and blue, and there is an eye ring looped through the bottom. From the eye ring hangs a ceramic medallion printed with a border of flags and a photographic portrait of Admiral Dewey. The back is printed with a colored illustration of a war ship with the label, "ADML DEWEY'S FLAGSHIP U.S. CRUISER OLYMPIA".

Context

Admiral George Dewey, of Montpelier, Vermont, was a celebrated war hero during the Spanish-American War. This was owned by his brother, Charles Dewey.
