"Pinckney Frost, Springfield, 1864
Frost invented a fastening that allowed a mower to make adjustments to the scythe without bending or twisting the web or arm of the tool. In 1852, the Reverend Pinckney Frost, F. P. Ball and Charles C. Church founded the firm of Frost, Ball and Church in Springfield to manufacture scythe snaths or handles. The business later came under the manager of the Vermont Snath Company, which moved to Bellows Falls in 1882. It was still in business as Ball and Derby in 1895.Acquisition
