Description

Patent model for a camp bed. The model consists of two rectangular wooden frames with wire mesh stretched across the centers. The frames are attached at one end, creating a hinged platform. There are collapsible legs beneath the longer the frame. A small metal plaque on the bottom reads, "Dr. S. A. Skinner, Bristol Vt." An attached paper tag reads, "No 36441 S. A. Skinner. Bedstead, Lounge and Chair. Patented Sept 9th 1862."

From 1790 to 1880, the US Patent Office required a three-dimensional working model to demonstrate each new invention.
