Description

Medal consisting of a bar, a ribbon, and a medallion. The bar is undecorated, and the ribbon loops over a wire on the back. The ribbon is plain-woven and striped blue, white, and red. From the bottom of the ribbon hangs an enameled medallion showing a blue quatrefoil within a wreath. There are two gold stars on the quatrefoil (indicating the rank of Major-General) and a red triangle in the center. There are crossed spears at the back. The reverse of the medallion is engraved, "Maj. Genl. Wm. F. Smith Com. dg. 18th Army Corps/ Major U.S. Engineers presented by officers of his staff".
