Octagonal papier-mâché snuffbox. The box is thickly lacquered in black with a small brass shield inlaid at the center top. The letters "SHa" are scratched into the bottom.

Context

Said to have been owned by Daniel Shays of Hopkinton, Massachusetts, who led Shays' Rebellion.
