Description

Metal box with hinged lid. The sides of the box are stamped with the words, "2 DOZ. EGGS / EGGS". There is a rectangular hole in the top that reveals an address label underneath. There is an impressed square next to the rectangular hole that has slits at the top and bottom (for stamp cards). The address label is on a piece of paperboard that is printed with usage instructions, prices, mailing weights, and advertisements. The back of the paper is printed with the same information. The typed address label on one side reads, "ROBERT DUMVILLE / SOUTH ROYALTON / VERMONT". The handwritten address label on the other side reads, "Mr. Rudolf Kind / 40 Locust Street / Garden City L.I. New York". Beneath the page is rectangular piece of cardboard. The interior of the crate is filled with removable cardboard and metal inserts bent into repeated scallop shapes, creating rows of oval egg holders. Several of the egg holders are filled with paper napkins printed with flowers in pink, green, blue, and yellow. There are remnants of egg and eggshells within the holders.
