Description

Pink taffeta dress brocaded with gold bees. The bodice has two front darts, leading to a pointed waistline. The sleeves are straight cut and end at the wearer's elbows. The skirt is pleated into the waistline of the bodice with a small gap in the center front that has been covered with a separate strip of self fabric decorated with non-functional large, fabric-covered buttons.

Context

According the family history, the fabric of this dress was originally worn by Calma Frizzell for her wedding to Ebenezer Howe in Vernon, VT, 1796. Her dress was refashioned into its current form ca. 1850.
