Description

Two-pronged hayfork consisting of a long, turned wooden handle and a metal tines.

Context

In 1852, John Kinsley fell onto this hayfork, impaling himself through the stomach. As he was alone at the time, he managed to remove the hayfork and walk to the house. He was eventually healed and went on to represent Fletcher, Vermont, in the state legislature.
