Description

Brown velvet vest decorated with appliqued beadwork flowers. The front is decorated on either side with matching beadwork flowers, each with ten black and purple petals. The centers of the flowers are pink, yellow, and white, and they each have five green leaves down the long stem. The inner edges of the vest are bound with green ribbon (now largely deteriorated), and the bottom is bound in light-colored leather. The side seams are decorated with leather fringe. The vest is unlined.

Context

Worn by an Abenaki man in Vermont in the early 20th century for the tourist trade.
