1876 sampler made by Ada Mae Sargent (1867-1951) of Sheldon, VT. All rows of dark green cross-stitched letters and numbers are each divided by a row of red stitching. The first two rows is the upper-case alphabet; the next three rows are lower-case alphabet and numerals. The next four rows are cursive capital letters with the letter Z in the next row followed by the quote: "Remember thy Creator in the days of thy youth" and the last two rows: "Ada M. Sargent/ Sheldon, Vt. 1876" Sampler is worked on cross stitch or needlepoint canvas and at a much later date, the edges were folded under and stitched to a muslin-covered backing and framed in a wooden frame.
