Description

Plain gold ring with a hinged compartment on the inside of the band. The compartment held dirt (now removed). The ring is domed and may be hollow throughout. The initials CH are engraved on the inside of the band.

Context

Worn as a mourning right by Kate Frances Twitchell Holland. The ring held dirt from the grave of her husband, Clark Holland, who was assassinated in Bossier Parish, Louisiana.
