Context

Thousands or perhaps millions of these efficient little hand carved ice fishing pole/reel combo tools were carved by everyone who could get onto the ice in the winter, whether Abenaki, French or English. We do know that an Abenaki man from Highgate Springs, Vermont used this to fish off of Shipyard Bay, “over by Bandstand Island” during the early 1900’s.
