Description

Gold membership medal consisting of a bar and medallion. The bar is decorated with scrollwork and has the inscription, "MT. ZION COMMANDERY K.T. MONTPELIER VT." and the date 1898. The medallion hangs from the bar by two short chains and is in the shape of a shield. It is molded with a scene of a house and the inscription, "27TH TRIENNIAL CONCLAVE" at the top and "ADMIRAL DEWEY'S BIRTHPLACE" at the bottom.

Context

Admiral George Dewey, of Montpelier, Vermont, was a celebrated war hero during the Spanish-American War. This was owned by his brother, Charles Dewey, to commemorate his attendance to a meeting of the Knights Templar.
