Description

Two-piece brown wool dress consisting of a bodice and skirt. The bodice is made from a brown plaid on the body and plain brown striated wool on the sleeves. It opens up the center front with 12 self-fabric covered buttons and fits to the wearer's body with four tucks. The cuffs and hem are decorated with gathered brown wool, and the hemline is pointed at both the front and back. The skirt is made as one piece, attached to a wide waistband (modern), but styled to look like a petticoat and overskirt. The overskirt portion covers the sides and back and is made of plain brown wool, while the petticoat portion shows at the front and around the hem and is made of brown plaid wool. The skirt is decorated with ruched self fabric around the edges of the various pieces and in an arch across the front hem. The back is decorated with pleated, horizontal strips of the plaid fabric.
