Description

Large commemorative medal with aluminum presentation case. One side of the medal shows a man wearing a cuirass and heavy loose coat stepping onto a rock with arms outstretched. The words "CHISTOPHER COLYMBYS OCT XII MCCCCXCII" are to the right. The back is molded with a globe flanked by angels at the top, a sailing ship at the bottom, and torches at the sides with the inscription, "WORLD'S COLUMBIAN EXPOSITION IN COMMEMORATION OF THE FOUR HUNDREDTH ANNIVERSARY OF THE LANDING OF COLUMBUS MDCCCXCII MDCCCXCIII TO A. W. GRAY'S SONS". The medal has an aluminum presentation case lined with silk velvet and chased with a closely repeated pattern of floral vines.
