Description

Amber blown glass flask (a) with shaped glass stopper (b). Used by Levi St. Clair of Addison, Vermont, who joined Military Company B, 11th Regiment, Vermont, in the Civil War. He was captured and perished as a prisoner of war and was likely buried in a mass grave near Florence, SC.

Context

Notes inside the bottle say as follows: "This flask belonged to Ruby Sorrell Evans' grandfather Levi St. Clair, who died in Libby Prison in 1861." "Amber chestnut bottle, hand-blown 1820's-1830's. Originally would have had cork stopper. Worth ? (I forgot to write it down. Might have been $175) Appraisal by Jim Dickerson at Fleming Museum Heirloom Day, Oct. 30, 1999."
