Oil on canvas painting of a Vermont landscape by A.L. Rawson. The painting shows the corner of a fenced-in field in the foreground with a rain barrel in one corner and a few broken cross-ties. The middle ground shows rolling pastures and a kitchen garden with a few oxen in one field, a horse pulling a plow with a farmer walking behind in another, and two people walking in a third. A white farmhouse peeks out from just behind a tree-filled slope and a mountain range extends into the background with blue skies and wispy clouds above. The painting is signed and dated "A.L. RAWSON - 1859" on the broken fence tie in the lower center of the painting.
The painting is set into a simple molded gilt frame. The back of the painting has a taped-on label that reads, "Rural landscape / See appraisal #35 / Purchased in Brattleboro, VT at / same auction as piano for $6." in blue ballpoint pen by a prior owner.Type of Painting
