Description

Beaded purse. It has a banded design consisting of [top to bottom] a narrow band of repeated animals, houses, and bushes on a red ground; a wide band of large roses and other flowers with leaves on a beige ground with blue borders at the top and bottom; blue berries or flower buds on a red ground; green chevrons, possibly representing trees or mountains. The lining and upper drawstring have been removed. The bead colors consist of red (2 shades), pink, yellow (2 shades), green (3 shades), blue (3 shades), black, white, and beige.

Context

Donor was a costume historian and collector. While her purchasing was done in New England, including VT (from antique stores), this piece does not have a recorded provenance prior to her collection.
