Description

Woman's hat. The crown is covered in red and grey silk woven with a pattern of leaves and flowers. The edge is trimmed with a large roll of grey silk velvet, and the center top is decorated with grey feather. The interior is lined with white silk.

Context

Made and worn by Eliza Dumas of Northfield, VT, for her marriage to Raphael Lanier on October 14, 1884. Eliza was a well-known dressmaker in Barre, Vermont.
