This large etched birch bark box from the east side of Lake Memphremagog has beautiful “double scroll” designs on the lid, a rarity in the American Abenaki area. Although the size and manufacture is similar to the much more common mid-Maine “Penobscot” bark boxes, its construction technique is more delicate and regionally distinctive.Acquisition
