Description

Round button that is white on the top half and red on the bottom half. The upper has the blue inscription "HACKETT" and the lower has the white inscription "BURGESS". A maker's mark along the edge reads "RUSSELL Badge Mfg., Wakefield, Mass."

Context

Made to support Republican Luther Hackett for Governor and Republican John Burgess for Lieutenant Governor, 1972. Hackett lost to Democrat Tom Salmon. Burgess was re-elected to his second term as lieutenant governor, having first been elected in 1970. In 1974 he ran for the U.S. House of Representatives, but lost in the Republican primary. He had also run unsuccessfully for attorney general in 1962, losing in the primary.
