Red and yellow satin-woven silk ribbon printed in gold with the inscription, "23RD ANNUAL ENCAMPMENT DEPARTEMENT OF VERMONT U. S. W. V. BARRE, VT. JUNE 13, 1935". There is a logo in the center consisting of a cross with weapons on the arms and an illustration of two men in the center. The logo says, "UNITED SPANISH WAR VETERANS 1898-1902". The top of the ribbon is connected to a rectangular gold frame pin, into which is inserted a piece of paper with the hand-inked name, "E. H. Prouty".Context
Worn by Edward H. Prouty to the 1935 state-wide encampment of the United Spanish War Veterans, a fraternal organization for veterans of the Spanish-American War, in Barre, Vermont. At the time of his death, Prouty was the last living officer of the Spanish-American War in Vermont.Acquisition
