Postal Savings Stamps, such as the ones here, were issued by the US government in an effort to raise money for World War II. The stamps were a cheaper alternative to larger denomination war bonds, rather than stamps used to pay postage on mail. Once enough stamps had been collected by a person, they could exchange them for a war bond of equivalent value. This corsage not only represents a patriotic spirit on the part of the wearer, it also visible shows a tangible 80-cent donation to the war effort.
